Elderly Woman Sends Brilliant Letter To Bank After They Let Her Check Bounce

Elderly people may seem frail, but messing with them is never a good idea. Though their bodies have aged, their minds are still sharp as a whip, and their lengthy life experience gives them an upper hand in many situations.

The following letter was sent to a bank manager by an 86 year-old woman after her check bounced, and he thought it was so funny that he sent it to the New York Times to publish. The letter is sure to bring a smile to your face and serve as a reminder that messing with older people is a very bad move indeed!

Here’s the full letter:

“Dear Sir: I am writing to thank you for bouncing my check with which I endeavored to pay my plumber last month. By my calculations, 3 nanoseconds must have elapsed between his presenting the check and the arrival in my account of the funds needed to honor it..

I refer, of course, to the automatic monthly deposit of my entire pension, an arrangement which, I admit, has been in place for only 8 years.

You are to be commended for seizing that brief window of opportunity, and also for debiting my account $30 by way of penalty for the inconvenience caused to your bank.

My thankfulness springs from the manner in which this incident has caused me to rethink my errant financial ways. I noticed that whereas I personally answer your telephone calls and letters, — when I try to contact you, I am confronted by the impersonal, overcharging, pre-recorded, faceless entity which your bank has become.

From now on, I, like you, choose only to deal with a flesh-and-blood person.

My mortgage and loan repayments will therefore and hereafter no longer be automatic, but will arrive at your bank, by check, addressed personally and confidentially to an employee at your bank whom you must nominate.

Be aware that it is an OFFENSE under the Postal Act for any other person to open such an envelope.

Please find attached an Application Contact which I require your chosen employee to complete.

I am sorry it runs to eight pages, but in order that I know as much about him or her as your bank knows about me, there is no alternative.

Please note that all copies of his or her medical history must be countersigned by a Notary Public, and the mandatory details of his/her financial situation (income, debts, assets and liabilities) must be accompanied by documented proof.

In due course, at MY convenience, I will issue your employee with a PIN number which he/she must quote in dealings with me.

I regret that it cannot be shorter than 28 digits but, again, I have modeled it on the number of button presses required of me to access my account balance on your phone bank service.

As they say, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

Let me level the playing field even further. When you call me, press buttons as follows: IMMEDIATELY AFTER DIALING, PRESS THE STAR (*) BUTTON FOR ENGLISH

1. To make an appointment to see me

#2. To query a missing payment.

#3. To transfer the call to my living room in case I am there.

#4 To transfer the call to my bedroom in case I am sleeping.

#5. To transfer the call to my toilet in case I am attending to nature.

#6. To transfer the call to my mobile phone if I am not at home.

#7. To leave a message on my computer, a password to access my computer is required. Password will be communicated to you at a later date to that Authorized Contact mentioned earlier.

#8. To return to the main menu and to listen to options 1 through

#9. To make a general complaint or inquiry. The contact will then be put on hold, pending the attention of my automated answering service.

#10. This is a second reminder to press* for English.

While this may, on occasion, involve a lengthy wait, uplifting music will play for the duration of the call. Regrettably, but again following your example, I must also levy an establishment fee to cover the setting up of this new arrangement. May I wish you a happy, if ever so slightly less prosperous New Year? Your Humble Client And remember: Don’t make old people mad. We don’t like being old in the first place, so it doesn’t take much to piss us off.”

LOL! What a priceless comeback!

Mom Baffled By Cost Of Daughter’s Birthday Meal When She Gets The Bill

A Pennsylvania mother decided to celebrate her daughter’s sixth birthday at Applebee’s. At the end of her daughter’s special dinner, as they were wrapping things up, the waitress headed to the table with the bill, which left the mother baffled.

Jolie Welling took her 6-year-old daughter, Sofia, to their local Applebee’s in Washington, Pennsylvania, to celebrate the kindergartner’s birthday when she received the shock of her life. The party of 16 was having a great time, celebrating with appetizers, food, drinks, and even cupcakes the mom had brought along to finish off the birthday celebration. But, she’d soon find herself and most of her large party in tears.

“We had drinks, appetizers, full-course meals,” Jolie recalled of the celebratory event. “We brought our own dessert — we had cupcakes — but that’s pretty expensive right there,” she said, referring to the bill to feed the large group. Then, as things were winding down, the waitress came to their table with a shocking announcement.

“(The waitress) came over and announced to the table that an anonymous person paid our whole tab, and we were like, ‘What? Who?’ She was like, ‘I can’t tell you, they want to be anonymous,’ and I was like, ‘Oh my goodness,’” Jolie said. “The next thing, when we finally realized it, we started tearing up.”

Indeed, this turned out to be a day Jolie Welling and her family will never forget, all thanks to the kindness and incredible generosity of a total stranger. And, Jolie says it’s the best gift her daughter could have ever gotten. “Life is so complicated as it is, and you just work and work and work and struggle, and you try to enjoy every moment you can, and having my 6-year-old see that someone did this act of kindness really shows her that there are good people in this world,” the grateful mom explained. “I think it was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done.”

As for the birthday girl, she says the gesture made her happy, and she guesses her awesome party must have cost “100 million dollars.” Luckily, it wasn’t that much, and her mom plans to pay it forward and surprise another family the way the stranger did hers, WTAE reported. But, this story gets even better.

This isn’t this kind stranger’s first time being such a blessing to unsuspecting strangers. In fact, the husband and wife behind the act of kindness often sit at the bar in the Washington, Pennsylvania Applebee’s, looking for someone to bless. Three or four times a week, they eat at the restaurant. A few times a month, they randomly pick up the tab for some diners, who get to benefit from their generosity, according to CBS Local.

I was almost in tears,” Samantha Powell, the waitress who served the Welling party, said. “It touches me, too,” she added. “They were just so surprised. They were like, ‘Oh my god. Who? Who?’ and they were looking around and wanted to know who it was, but I would not tell them,” she continued. “He approached me to tell me to give him the check for that table.

The same happened to Darla Pepper-Miller and her group six months prior when the music director at the Church of the Covenant in Washington was celebrating the birthday of one of the choir members. When the time came to pay the bill, they too were told it had been taken care of.

Just gratitude because of everything going on in the world and so much turmoil and protests and hatred,” Pepper-Miller recalled feeling when she found out someone had picked up her tab. “It’s good to know that there are people that care about each other and give, pay it forward.” Like Jolie Welling, Pepper-Miller was also inspired by the experience to pay it forward.

According to Applebee’s, the unnamed good Samaritans own a business in the area, and they have dined and picked up other people’s meal tabs for years, the New York Post reported. Although Applebee’s Assistant Manager Bernie Lewis says she’s been sworn to secrecy and won’t reveal their identities, Powell said that the husband in the duo once explained to her why he does what he does: “He always says, ‘I grew up poor and now I’m not’ and that is all he says.” And, that says plenty.

Angela Lansbury, 96, Does Not Plan to Retire after Acting for Nearly 80 Years - Inside Her Life & Career

Angela Lansbury started her acting career in her teens. She has multiple awards under her name and has had a thriving career for 80 years. The actress is now 96, but retirement is still not in the cards for her.

Angela Lansbury started her career when she was only 17 years old. The story behind her first casting was one of those right places at the right time moments.

Lansbury’s father, Edgar, died from cancer when she was nine. Her family’s well-being entirely relied on Edgard’s wood veneer company; therefore, things got tough for her mother and siblings when he passed.

In an interview with Daily Mail, Lansbury confessed that nothing has affected or altered her life like her father’s death. The award-winning actress said her performance at school started to decline until she lost complete interest.

However, she was intrigued by acting. Lansbury’s mother, Moyna MacGill, who was also an actress, took the leap of faith and moved her four children to America. The family first landed in New York before moving to Lose Angeles.

Lansbury worked at the Bullock’s department store. During her time there, the actress met Van Druten, one of Metro Goldwyn Mayer (MGM) studio’s scriptwriters for the film “Gaslighters.”

Druten saw something in Lansbury and set up a screen test. In only four days, the actress was cast for her first role as the flirtatious maid Nancy.

This character landed Lansbury a contract with MGM and her first Oscar nomination. In her interview with Daily Mail, the actress described this as “a little short of a miracle.”

From there, it was just uphill for the actress; she worked on films such as; “The Picture of Dorian Gray.” and “The Three Musketeers,” by the time she was in her 20s, Lansbury was accustomed to different characters.

She even played as a middle-aged woman despite her young age. At 36, Lansbury played the mother of 26-year-old Elvis Presley in “Blue Hawaii.”

Lansbury started expanding her portfolio by doing theatre. Her first performance was in the comedy musical “Mame.” She played an unstable but loving woman that raised her orphaned nephews.

The performance was a hit, and Lansbury started landing more broadway roles, like the character Mama Rose in “Gypsy.” As well as the thrilling part of Mrs. Lovett, the killer, in “Sweeney Todd.”

Lansbury then ventured into television, where she played one of her most iconic roles, Jessica Fletcher, in “Murder She Wrote.”

The writer of the TV show Jean Stapleton quit after the first season, which had good ratings. Although when asked by People magazine, Lansbury was skeptical about the show and said, “It looks good, but we’ll see if it lasts for the year.”

The show ended up becoming one of the longest-running TV shows in America. It lasted 12 years and aired 264 episodes.

When Lansbury was 19 years old, she married actor-turned-artist Richard Cromwell, but their marriage did not even last a year.

Lansbury said she arrived home one day and found a note that read, “‘Sorry, ‘I can’t go on.’ The actress was shuttered to experience yet another loss and confused about where could have gone wrong.

As Lansbury was trying to figure out what could have ended her marriage, a publicist told her her husband was gay.

The actress was devastated and wondered why he had married her in the first place, but the two managed to maintain a friendly relationship until Comwell lost his battle with cancer in 1960.

In 1949 Lansbury married her second husband, Peter Shaw; this time around, the relationship was perfect as the actress described it.

The reason behind this was the couple’s devotion to their marriage and a good balance between work and family. Lansbury even said her husband sacrificed his career as an agent to help her grow her career in television.

The actress confessed that “Murder She Wrote” took up much of her time and energy, but her husband knew how much it meant to her, so quitting his job to be there for Lansbury was a no-brainer and the kind of support they showed each other.

Lansbury and her husband came close to the tragedy of losing their two children, Anthony and Deidre. It was discovered that the actress’ kids had been involved with the wrong crowd and became introduced to drugs even before they hit their teens.

Lansbury knew it could only get worse, so she urged her husband to move to Ireland, Country Cork, a place that would not have them exposed to drugs.

Lanbur’s plan worked because her son Anthony was a changed man in no time. Even though it took a bit longer for her daughter Deirdre, she still came out at the top.

Anthony is a retired TV director and has directed 68 of “Murder She Wrote.” Deirdre is happily married and runs an Italian restaurant with her husband in Los Angeles.

Lansbury and Shaw’s marriage lasted 54 years until her husband died of heart failure in 2003. The actress was devasted by the loss and ended up in the dark space of depression.

The actress could not point out what helped her out of the darkness, but she said she knew she had to wait until she could do it all again.

However, she remembered another reason she kept going: her husband, Lansbury, said she knew he would want her to continue.

One of the films Lansbury played in during this challenging time was “Nanny McPhee,” which she was invited to by her friend and fellow actress Emma Thompson.

Lansbury said it was a difficult job, but she enjoyed the costumes and the make-up. The job also got her back to acting after her husband’s death.

In finding new ways to live without her husband, Lansbury had an interview with Larry King and said her grandchildren had become the most important aspect of her life.

Retirement does not seem to be in the books for Lansbury. The actress said she does not foresee stepping down from her career; instead, she told Larry King that she would probably die with one hand on her script.

After celebrating her 96th birthday, Lansbury expressed how fortunate she feels to be able to celebrate this moment with her children and grandchildren.

Mom of Two Who Lives in Old Car Shares Meal with Poor Neighbor, Next Day Gets New $370K Home

Despite not having much, a mom of two living in a car decided to share her meal with a poor neighbor, only to receive an expensive brand new home the following day from an unexpected person.

Diane was a young single mother living with her four-month-old baby and two-year-old toddler in a beat-up old car. She had separated from her partner shortly before her second child’s birth and had to raise the two kids alone.

Unfortunately, she could no longer work because she had to care for her two children full-time. This forced her to vacate the small apartment they were living in and move into the beat-up old car she once inherited from her late dad.

She had no other option but for them to live in the car, parking in random parking lots around town because all nearby shelters were full. Her savings were getting depleted daily because she had to spend on food, her baby’s diapers, and other basic needs.

Although Diane wanted to work to support her children, no one would take them in, and she could not afford to put them in a daycare center. So while her children were sleeping, she would draw simple artworks and sell them on the street the next day.

While this gave them additional money for their daily expenses, it still wasn’t enough. Diane’s long-term goal was to save enough money for daycare to get a proper job and provide her kids with better, more comfortable lives.

One day, Diane and her two children were walking back to their car after eating a simple meal from a local food truck when they spotted an old lady counting her coins desperately. “What’s the matter?” Diane asked the woman.

The old lady looked at Diane and sighed. “I haven’t eaten all day, but my coins aren’t enough to buy a meal. All I can buy with these coins is a cookie,” she explained.

Diane felt terrible for the old lady, who looked frail. “You must be hungry. You can have dinner with us. I’ll share my meal with you,” she offered without hesitation.

The old lady was surprised at Diane’s kindness, especially since it was evident that Diane wasn’t well-off. She was dressed in ragged clothes and had a two-year-old toddler wearing tight-fit clothes and a baby wearing nothing but a diaper wrapped around her waist with a makeshift baby carrier.

“Why, thank you, dear,” the old lady told her. “I won’t take much of your food, but I’ll admit that even a bite would be appreciated right now. I don’t know if I can make it home without eating anything,” she added.

With that, Diane and the old lady sat at a nearby bench and shared the rice meal she ordered. While the old lady, who introduced herself as Nena, devoured her half, Diane fed her two-year-old before feeding herself.

When she was done, she breastfed her baby, who was sleeping quietly inside the makeshift baby carrier.

“Do you live nearby?” the elderly woman asked Diane after she finished eating.

Diane shrugged. “I guess you can say that… my sons and I live in our car,” she admitted.

“Why?” Nena said in shock. “Do you take care of your children the entire day?” she asked.

Diane nodded her head. “My partner left me shortly after I gave birth to our second child. I couldn’t afford the rent alone, so we were forced to live in the car. No shelters are willing to take us in at the moment. I hope to get a job, but I can’t afford daycare right now. I’m still saving up.

Nena felt bad for Diane but admired her hard work and perseverance to give her kids better lives. She asked Diane where she’d be in three days so they could meet up again, and Diane told her.

The following day, Nena reported Diane’s story to the local newspaper in hopes of getting help for her. Within two days, many community members pitched in to help.

A property owner decided to give Diane and her kids a fully-furnished two-bedroom apartment worth over $370,000, which he said was his way of giving back after selling out several of his properties in a month. A daycare center offered to care for Diane’s two children for free by giving her a lifetime gift certificate.

Last but not least, several companies heard about Diane’s determination to find work. She received many job offers, which also came with benefits, such as free counseling, clothing allowance, and medical allowance for her children.

Nena excitedly rushed to Diane in the location where she said she’d be after hearing about all the donation offers. They went to the community center together, where Diane heard about all the generous gifts the community members wanted to give her and her children.

One of the people present at the center was the property owner who decided to give Diane an apartment. After receiving all the generous gifts, he asked Diane: “Are you ready to see your new home?”

Diane looked at Nena in disbelief, because she couldn’t believe what was happening was real. She nodded her head, and together, they traveled towards the apartment building she and her children could now call home.

When they got to the beautiful apartment, Diane couldn’t help but cry. She never expected to receive such kindness from strangers and was overwhelmed with gratitude. When Diane asked Nena why she shared her story, Nena replied:

“You decided to share what you had, despite having so little. It’s only right that you receive the same kindness you so generously give others.”

Girl, 4, Cuddles Her Dying Cat While Singing His Favorite Song One Last Time in Emotional Video

Before the inevitable claws of death snatched their sunshine away, one family made sure to give him a proper goodbye, celebrating their cat’s life with a heartbreaking tune.

Beyond her children’s beautiful relationship with Bailey, mother Erin Merryn had no idea how much warmth her bright-orange feline would bring to the hearts of the online world.

Merryn first snuck the tabby cat into her college dormitory after she purchased him from the pet store. More than a decade later, her furry friend was still by her side.

Bailey was an excellent addition to the family, allowing and enjoying the mom’s little girls, 2-year-old Hannah and 4-year-old daughter Abigail to play whatever quirky, imaginative games they wanted with him. Merryn expressed:

They would dress him up in dresses, princess shoes, play makeup on and he didn’t care. He just loved these girls.

This author also recollected how he would snuggle on their laps as they sang to him. These beautiful melodies both began Bailey’s career and comforted him as he purred his final goodbyes to his family and fans.

Bailey’s rise to fame began in 2018. Merryn’s baby girl Abigail was videotaped singing “You Are My Sunshine” to the cat, enjoying the music.

After it was posted online, the internet fell in love, and suddenly, the tabby was everywhere, as the clip went viral. Sadly, later that year, Bailey found herself in a harrowing situation with kidney failure.

In a bittersweet gesture caught on video, and as she was passing, Abigail sang the furry angel’s favorite song, “You Are My Sunshine,” as the cat snuggled on her lap and slowly slipped away. The distraught mother expressed:

I could not stop crying when he passed. It was one of the worst days of my life, and I have had some pretty terrible life experiences.

Of course, there was a massive response to this video, with individuals sending numerous cards to the girls in hopes they would comfort them.

Although physically absent, this blazing orange cat still lives on in many ways. The conservation of the feline’s legacy is for the mom and her daughters. But it is also for the public that fell in love with the tabby.

The cat’s Facebook and Instagram pages continue to be updated so that fans can still get a taste of the cat that soothed their souls on a dark day.

Merryn also wrote a book, “No Ordinary Cat,” documenting nostalgic and character-defining photos of their pet.

While all of these are beautiful and touching ideas, the most important place where this blazing tabby cat will live on forever is in the hearts of his family.

Plumber took job at cancer-sick 91-year-old’s home, and his invoice is now going viral

If you feel like your faith in humanity has been lots, fear not, as 52-year-old plumber James Anderson is here to restore it.

This kind man with a heart of gold fixes things for vulnerable people without charging them any money.

He used to run a business that he shut down in order to create the non-for-profit company Depher.

Although he has been working for free for some time now, it wasn’t until recently that the story of his kindness spread across the country.

Namely, the bill he gave to a 91-year-old lady with acute-leukemia with total of zero dollars to charge was posted online by the woman’s daughter and vent viral.

On the bill, James, who is a father of five, wrote, “No charge for this lady under any circumstances. We will be available 24 hours to help her and keep her as comfortable as possible.”

“A lot of people close to me ask: why are you getting yourself in to debt? Why are you doing this?” he said.

“To me, debt is debt… I would rather owe some money to somebody and another person be alive and happy and safe.”

Since he started providing free or low-cost plumbing for those in need in 2017, his dept has risen to around $9,940. But he believes that it is nothing compared to the happiness of those he helps.

“It’s an ethos that’s in my heart and it will always stay there.”

Just recently, he decided to ask others to be part of his company so that more vulnerable citizens get the help they desperately need.

I’ve spoken to quite a few engineers around the country and they’re all for it… it’s just getting the funding,” he said.

“I don’t want any person who is elderly and disabled in this country, in this day and age, to die or suffer because of a cold home or a lack of funding to repair the boiler.”

“It shouldn’t be happening – that number should be down to zero. Simple as that.”

Since his invoice went viral, many people became familiar with his work and James was able to raise $100,000 in donations. He’s no longer struggling to keep his non-profit afloat.

James really is a very special person. Nowadays, it’s very rare to meet someone who puts the happiness of others above their own, but James is a proof that those people do exist and make this world a much better place.

Prince William Gives Emotional Tribute To Princess Diana On What Would Have Been Her 61st Birthday

Princess Diana was known as the “people’s princess,” and although it’s been nearly 25 years since her untimely passing, her popularity with the public hasn’t waned. If anything, it’s grown even stronger, as her sons Prince William and Prince Harry continue to honor her incredible legacy.

July 1 was Diana’s birthday, and on the occasion of what would have been her 60th birthday in 2021, William and Harry paid tribute to their mother by unveiling the first official statue of her. Located at the Sunken Garden at Kensington Palace, one of Diana’s favorite spots at the residence, the statue was opened to the public so that people can visit and pay their respects in person.

Sculpted by Ian Rank-Broadley, the statue depicts Diana with short hair accompanied by three children. In front, a paving stone is engraved with words inspired by the poem “The Measure of Man.” “The figure of Diana, Princess of Wales, is surrounded by three children who represent the universality and generational impact of the Princess’s work,” Kensington Palace said regarding the statue’s special meaning.

The statement also continued, “The portrait and style of dress was based on the final period of her life, as she gained confidence in her role as an ambassador for humanitarian causes and aims to convey her character and compassion.”

Although Diana’s legacy is wide-ranging — from her iconic sense of style to her ability to buck the rigid royal system — what’s most lasting is her kindness and legacy of humanitarian work. In fact, her charitable efforts have been continued by her two sons and their respective wives.

In honor of what would be Diana’s 61st birthday, let’s take a look at what made the people’s princess so loved by the world.

Still today, nearly 25 years since her untimely death, Princess Diana is remembered fondly all over the world for her kind-hearted manner and charity work. Diana’s early death in 1997 at the age of 36 devastated not only the British royal family but also fans across the globe. In the wake of her passing, memorabilia of her quickly rose to prominence.

While there have been lulls of interest, Diana remains a popular person and topic even to this day. Certain events and occasions such as documentaries or Netflix’s recent series “The Crown” keep people interested in everything there is to know about Diana and the tragic tale behind her rise as a beloved British royal family member.

What set Diana apart from the rest was her need to help others. The Diana Award, an organization that honors young people who help to improve the lives of others, stated:

Diana didn’t just accept the world around her for the way it was and she used her role in the public eye to help causes that many others overlooked.

She also truly believed that young people were capable of changing the world. Speaking about her innate sense of caring and desire to help others, Diana once said:

Helping people in need is a good and essential part of my life, a kind of destiny.

Among her many charitable efforts, Diana worked with charities including the International Campaign to Ban Landmines, made strides in helping to break down the stigma of HIV/AIDS, spent time with disabled and ill kids at Great Ormond Street Hospital, and advocated for the homeless.

The statue of Diana’s unveiling coincided with what would have been her 60th birthday in 2021. Fans from around the world took to social media to pay tribute to Diana and the new statue. Of course, the most important tribute came from the late princess’ children — Prince William and Prince Harry, who have continued on her incredible legacy of helping others.

Today, on what would have been our mother’s 60th birthday, we remember her love, strength and character — qualities that made her a force for good around the world, changing countless lives for the better,” William and Harry said in their joint statement that accompanied the unveiling of their late mother’s statue.

One of the reasons Diana’s humanitarian work resonated so much with the world was because she went further than other celebrities before her. Instead of just talking about causes she was passionate about, she went to the front lines — literally putting her life at risk by walking through a field of active landmines or spending time sitting with patients with leprosy.

In fact, Harry honored his mother’s 1997 trip to Dirico, Angola, where she walked through a field of landmines by tracing the same route himself in 2019. The Duke of Sussex shared a photo of his mother from her trip there, before posting images of himself walking the same path. The caption read:

Today in Angola The Duke of Sussex will retrace his mother’s steps to see the legacy of her work and how her connection with this community helped make the elimination of landmines a reality.

Diana’s trip had a direct impact on the region and led to historical change as it helped get the Ottawa Treaty enacted, also known as the Convention Against Anti-Personal Landmines. Considering all of the positive change Diana brought to the world, despite her short lifetime, it’s no wonder she’s still such an inspiration to many.

Honoring his mother on what would have been her 61st birthday, William paid tribute to the most recent recipients of The Diana Award. According to PEOPLE, the award honors people for their social action and humanitarian work, as it was something that Diana valued and promoted for much of her life as a royal.

Both William and Harry have spoken up in the past to show their support for the prestigious award, as well as pay tribute to those who have won the award. According to PEOPLE, 180 philanthropists were honored as part of 2022’s virtual celebration, with the recipients coming from 29 countries all around the world.

William released a letter congratulating the winners of 2022 and admiring them for carrying on his late mother’s legacy. On official Kensington Palace stationary with William’s standard “W” cipher, the Duke of Cambridge wrote:

Congratulations on receiving The Diana Award today! You are part of an inspirational generation of young people who are changing the world through your actions, and I hugely admire your efforts. I hugely admire your efforts. Your stories are remarkable. Many of you face huge challenges in the face of difficult times, yet you are tirelessly breaking down barriers to create a better future for us all.

William concluded, “You truly are the personification of my mother’s legacy and I know she would be so proud of you all. I believe there’s no better way to celebrate her life and work than through recognizing incredible people who dedicate so much time and effort to helping those around them.”

Although Diana is no longer with us, her legacy is as vibrant as ever.

Do you remember Diana, Princess of Wales’ charitable efforts during her lifetime? What do you think about her sons continuing on her legacy in that area? Let us know, then pass this on to those you know so they can honor her memory too.

Archaeologists may have just found the long lost ‘Temple of Hercules’ in Spain

A “holy grail” in the eyes of many archaeologists for centuries, has been the long-lost Temple of Hercules Gaditanus. The place was significant in ancient history and was visited by historical figures such as Julius Caesar and Hannibal. Now, archaeologists believed that they may have, at long last, found the illusive spot.

Though not everyone is convinced, a team of archaeologists in Spain has put forward a cautiously optimistic argument that the Temple of Hercules can be found in the Bay of Cádiz.

Most archaeological discoveries are made from digging in the ground. But the possible Temple of Hercules was spotted from the air. Ricardo Belizón, a graduate archaeology student at the University of Seville, spotted an intriguing outline while studying topographic models.

While looking through data from Spain’s PNOA-LiDAR project — which has been mapping the country since 2009 — Belizón saw an intriguing structure submerged in the Caño de Sancti Petri, in the Bay of Cádiz. It appeared to be about 1,000 feet long and 500 feet wide.

Though he had hoped to uncover what Cádiz’s coastline looked like in ancient times, Belizón may have instead stumbled upon the Temple of Hercules. The submerged ruins seem to match with what archaeologists and historians know about the lost temple.

“We researchers are very reluctant to turn archaeology into a spectacle,” noted Francisco José García, the director of the Department of Prehistory and Archaeology at Seville University, while presenting the discovery. “But in this case, we are faced with some spectacular findings. They are of great significance.”

Researchers believe that the coastline looked different thousands of years ago. Belizón’s research suggests that the bay once was “a totally anthropized [transformed by people] coastline, with a large building [the possible temple], several breakwaters, moorings, and an inner harbor.”

And the fact that the coastline is so different today actually lines up with historical anecdotes about the Temple of Hercules.

According to Milagros Alzaga, head of the Andalusian Institute’s Center for Underwater Archaeology, ancient texts describe an area of “a changing environment, in contact with the sea, subject to the changing tides, in a temple where there must have been port structures and a seafaring environment.”

He added: “The documentary sources we analyzed, the archaeological information together with the images obtained with digital models of the site, lead us to believe that this could be the mythical temple of Hercules.”

Archaeologists have yet to dig up the site but many are thrilled by the possible discovery of the Temple of Hercules. So, why is this temple such a big deal?

The Temple of Hercules Gaditanus was initially built to honor the Phoenician god Melqart — who later morphed under Roman rule into Hercules, the half-human son of Zeus. Endowed with great strength, Hercules was a demigod considered to be a diety of strength and heroes.

According to ancient accounts, the Temple of Hercules had two large columns at its entrance, an ever-burning flame, and art depicting the “Labors of Hercules.” Significantly, the religious site was visited by both Julius Caesar — who wept upon seeing a statue of Alexander the Great — and Hannibal, who visited the temple to offer thanks for his military successes.

As such, the discovery is a thrilling one — if the Spanish archaeologists have, indeed, found the Temple of Hercules.

“With these kinds of exceptional findings, we can get ahead of ourselves,” cautioned Antonio Sáez Romero of Seville University, who also took part in the research. “We want to be very cautious. [The finds] are very interesting and hopeful, but it is now that the most exciting part begins.”

Others don’t believe that there’s anything to be hopeful about. Antonio Monterroso-Checa, an archaeology professor at the University of Cordoba, previously published a different theory about the location of the Temple of Hercules. The latest research, he said, is a “triangulation error.”

For now, it’s yet to be seen whether or not the Temple of Hercules has truly been found. Chasing compelling clues, archaeologists seek to further examine the Bay of Cádiz in hopes of solving this ancient mystery.

200 Nebraska Farmers Remain Silent During Auction So A Young Man Can Buy Back His Family Farm

This is a story that makes us believe in humanity. If it weren’t for the kindness of these farmers, a young man wouldn’t have been able to win back his family farm. This is a story which took place in Nebraska, and features a family that has lost their farm several years ago.

It was not their fault, which is why all the farmers present at the auction, let them win that land back. All the farmers decided to remain silent, so that the auctioneer would have to give this family the farm they came to bid on.

The story goes back several years ago, when this family lost their farm because one of their ancestors decided to sell it to a relative who didn’t have much interest in farming. The entire family felt devastated because they were taking good care of the farm.

All of them were extraordinary farmers and they knew what they were doing around there. Anyways, knowing the business well, they were certain that the relative who got the farm wouldn’t last long.

So they started collection money so as to be prepared for the day when they farm would go on sale, probably on an auction. They knew that for several years they would be given the chance to win their farm back.

Eventually that day has come, but they didn’t have so much money. So their only hope was that there will not be so many people interested in their family farm. However, when they got there, they knew that they didn’t have much chance to win their farm because there were 200 farmers present there.

They were aware of the way auctions work. The man who offers the highest amount of money for anything people are bidding on, wins. Anyway, David and his father were looking forward to the moment when their farm will be presented. So when the moment came, they made their bid and were waiting for the other to try to outbid them.

But on the contrary, there were no voices whatsoever. No one tried to win their farm. 200 farmers remained silent. Not because the farm was not worth the money, but it was because they wanted to let David and his father own their farm again and start working on it.

So it turned out that all the farmers present had made a deal beforehand. They decided not to stand in the way of this family and to let them win their farm again.

David and his father didn’t ask them to do it. It was just that all of them were willing to help their fellow farmers. The auctioneer tried to praise the land and gave them some time to think about it, but no one accepted that challenge. At the end, the auctioneer had to sell the farm to David’s family, so the land returned back to the place where it belonged.

After the auction, David said that he will never forget that day! It was amazing!

School Turns Leftover Cafeteria Food Into Frozen, Take-Home Meals To Give To Students In Need

A local nonprofit company partnered itself with an Indiana school district to make sure kids have enough to eat. Elkhart Community Schools, in the northern part of Indiana, saw how much food they had left each week.

They also noticed that some of their students may be without food on the weekends when they go home from school. This issue partnered with the leftovers the school accumulates from making school breakfasts and lunches, there seemed like there needed to be a solution reached. That’s where Cultivate Culinary, a South Bend-based nonprofit stepped in. Jim Conklin an employee of Cultivate Culinary told WSBT 22 News,

Mostly, we rescue food that’s been made but never served by catering companies, large food service businesses, like the school system,” adding, “You don’t always think of a school.

“Over-preparing is just part of what happens,” Conklin continued. Cultivate has made a special way to direct good food to people who need it most instead of wasting it.

When they rescue the food, Cultivate repackages it and creates frozen meals and redistributes those meals to those who need it.”We take well-prepared food, combine it with other food and make individual frozen meals out if it,” Conklin said.

Cultivate’s website states that 100,000 people don’t know where their next meal is coming from including 1 out of every 5 children. The main goal of Cultivate is to fight hunger in the community.

Their partnership, alongside Elkhart Community Schools, is a big step to achieve that. About 64 percent of children in the school district qualifies for reduced or free lunches according to Inside Edition.

Cultivate comes to save food from Woodland Elementary about three times a week and they want to get the program into the other schools soon as well. Currently, selected students will take eight frozen meals home on Fridays. Melissa Ramey, Chamber Leadership Academy told WSBT,

“It’s making a big impact, I am proud of that. It was heartbreaking to hear that children go home on the weekends and that they don’t have anything to eat.”

There is a need for the kids so they don’t go hungry. Cultivate, along with Elkhart Community Schools, hopes to fill that need.
